LIBA 101. Liberal Arts Seminar. 3 Hours.

Emphasizes the development of key capacities that are essential for students transitioning to college: critical reasoning; reading and writing within disciplinary and genre expectations; and understanding how identity and perspective are shaped by values, culture, time, or place. To help students develop these capacities, the course highlights practice, process, and a growth mindset. This small group seminar is required of all first-year students.

All new first-year students are required to take LIBA 101, a liberal arts seminar introducing them to college-level study, during the first semester of enrollment. This small-group seminar helps students develop key capacities essential for students transitioning to college: critical reasoning; reading and writing within disciplinary and genre expectations; and understanding how identity and perspective are shaped by values, culture, time, or place. To help students develop these capacities, the course highlights practice, process, and a growth mindset. Topics of sections vary by instructor.
